Design Assistant (full-time)
ROLE
The purpose of the Design Assistant is to support the design team in generating ecologically-impactful designs for every client. The Design Assistant provides design support in a well-organized and timely manner, under the direction of the Lead Designer. The Design Assistant reports primarily to the Lead Designer, but will be working alongside all members of the design team as needed to facilitate our landscape design process. The Design Assistant will assist our landscape design branch through design tasks such as formatting client deliverables using LandFX and CAD and administrative tasks, such as ordering surveys, sending client emails, and archiving completed projects.

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and CAD/LAND FX
  • Excellent and clear communication skills — both verbal and written 
  • Compassionate, helpful, and friendly demeanor
  • Able and willing to learn new skills; learning how to seek answers, problem solve or seek assistance to get the job done
  • Comfortable working with a team
  • Flexible and able to adapt to unique situations
  • Familiar with Google Docs, Sheets, Excel, and basic knowledge of GIS 
  • Strong sense of responsibility and ability to prioritize and complete multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Extremely detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Able to demonstrate discretion and handle confidential information
  • Access to reliable transportation

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Design Assistant is accountable to the following work:

Base Maps

  • Request and file surveys 
  • Create basemaps in CAD 
  • Communicates directly with clients and survey companies to coordinate that surveys are conducted, received in a timely manner, and organized appropriately.

Site A+A’s
  • Manages survey tab in design pipeline tracker with client info and survey status
  • Notify clients of upcoming site a+a visit
  • Conduct site a+a’s 
  • Receive, scale (digital) or scan (hand drawn), and file site a+a’s
  • Set up Miro board

Design
  • Participate in weekly design charettes with design team 
  • Render final designs both digitally and by hand 
  • Draft final deliverables in CAD using LandFX

Admin
  • Continually update plant library as internal plant and material lists develop
  • Maintain filing of all projects according to filing protocols
  • Support the ongoing development of digital file organization 
  • Attend weekly design meetings, review weekly project schedule 
  • Manage personal Google Calendar, and adhere to schedule
  • Communicate when schedule adjusts or a deadline must shift 
  • Oversee and execute archiving process
  • Update costing and other data in LAND FX as delegated

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
32-40 hrs/week, hourly. Compensation between $17-$23.50/hour, commensurate with experience. Includes PTO, sick pay, paid holidays, and continuing ed stipend.
